Sara Tarek
I'm Sarah Tarek, a visual artist who graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University. I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in art criticism and appreciation at the same university. I'm particularly interested in textiles and their intersections with technology and digital fabrication.
I attended the Maker Diploma in 2022 to deepen my understanding of digital fabrication and how it can enhance my textile-based artwork.
Recently, I completed a production-based residency at the Digital Expression Foundation, focusing on a project that merged textiles, technology, and art. Following this, I launched my own venture called 'fabric and stuff,' which produces eco-friendly fabric bags with designs inspired by Cairo and its people.
I believe my strength lies in my diverse skill set, which allows me to approach projects from various angles. I consider myself a maker because I utilize traditional craftsmanship to create contemporary products using eco-friendly materials
My Journey
My artistic journey began when I chose to study fine arts. Over five years, I experimented with a wide range of media, from sculpting and ceramics to textiles and printmaking. My interest in installation art and the intersection of technology and art sparked my curiosity about digital fabrication. This newfound knowledge has allowed me to seamlessly blend technology and traditional art forms, which has been invaluable for developing my personal brand.
